Crystal Corporate Gifts

By Owen Jones On February 8th, 2010

It can be very difficult to find beautiful and memorable corporate gifts. Many corporate gifts are just rubbish, especially the less expensive ones. However, there is a class of gift that is always treasured and can be thought of as useful too.

Have you always presented a calendar or a letter opener? Or a key ring, just like every other company does? Or a bottle of wine that is forgotten the day after it was opened? Well, there is hope yet. What about glass crystal? Everybody loves lead crystal, do they not?

Lead crystal items really are the bees’ knees of gifts, corporate gifts or not. People always need ashtrays, paper weights, and pen holders and made of lead crystal they look expensive and stylish adding to the image of your company.

Lead crystal goods are available in many kinds. They make fruit bowls, vases, glasses, paper weights, pen trays, ashtrays, picture frames and carriage clocks along with a dozen other items. When selecting a lead crystal corporate gift, you might like to bear the following things in mind:

If you are giving these corporate gifts to your staff, you may like to distinguish between your employees or give everyone the same gift. You can on grounds of sex, length of service, marital status or input to the firm’s turnover. There again, you may know the longest serving personnel very well and want to get them something that will suit them personally. You can do this in terms of cost or style or both.

For instance, office staff might like a lead crystal paperweight, pen-holder or picture frame. Blue collar workers may prefer a lead crystal vase or bowl. Single people might play golf or sail and like an item engraved with a golfing or sailing motif. Married people might love a picture frame or a vase. Long-serving personnel or high-earners might like a carriage clock.

Cost is obviously an important factor, but usually corporate gifts are tax-deducible and glass crystal items differ greatly in price depending on the manufacturer. For example, you can get a nice lead crystal goblet set for $15, but if you want to give Waterford lead crystal, you can expect to pay three times as much.

Are you giving these corporate gifts to clients or / and prospective clients? In this case, you will have to have them inscribed with your firm’s contact details. You will also want the corporate gift to stay in the client’s office, so it should be office orientated, not home orientated. Something like a heavy paperweight shaped like a rock or a desk tidy fashioned like a boat.

This is the best kind of promotion after word-of-mouth and sign-written vehicles and should be taken seriously by any company that must have clients. Giving a well-thought of gift like lead crystal is a way of enhancing your reputation and that of the beneficiary.

The only other thing to bear in mind is that corporate gifts in lead crystal are precious and need to be handled with care, so if you are having them inscribed, which you must do, then you will need to know how long it will take to get your consignment done and delivered.

Important For All Churches

By Greg Black On February 8th, 2010

One of the most important things in common for all churches would be the need to disseminate information. And what better way that than to have a church bulletin? While the principle of having a bulletin has long been used, the effect of its aesthetics have greatly affected those who read it. The more spiritual part of the population have understandably sought ways to achieve creative church bulletins and church resources. Nowadays, there are many creative resources that are sold in stores.

One has to do strenuous shopping by going from one store to the other in order to procure specific supplies of church bulletins and other church resources. Due to limited supply, some stores run out of the bulletins and resources you need.

It is usually a big inconvenience and a waste of time to find stores that have bulletins that you are exactly looking for. But good thing, nowadays we are blessed to have today’s technology that makes these resources easy to find.

Resources such as church bulletins are now readily available online. Plus, they have a variety of the things and designs that you need. They also offer bulletins and other church resources that are themed for the holidays such as Easter and of course the ever celebrated Christmas. There are also themes for special occasions such as baptisms, weddings and the more sober events of death of loved ones.

Some resources that are available online are bookmarks, envelopes, cards and postcards. By accessing the online store, you can purchase all kinds of resources anytime within the comforts of your home or your office with no hassle at all.

Buying items online is time saving and not so effort consuming. It saves you from the hassles of store hopping.

Also, an advantage of these online stores is that they carefully categorize their products such as church bulletins and church resources for your easy preference. It is easy to browse for your desired products with just a few clicks.

Online stores have realized the importance of acquiring church bulletins and supplies for the many different religious sects. Because of such, they have found a way to make religious necessities easier to acquire and not to mention more appealing to the public eye.

Save time searching for good church bulletins by shopping for them on the internet. You can find everything you need at a good church resources website.

The Beginnings: Costa Rica Eco Tourism, Teddy Roosevelt And The Matterhorn

By Victor C. Krumm On February 8th, 2010

Like many of life’s greatest accomplishments, it began by accident. It started with one unique visionary on a intriguing but beautiful mountain. The man was Teddy Roosevelt; the Matterhorn was the mountain where an idea that changed our world germinated. Today, we call it “eco tourism” and every year it leads thousands of people to a small sapphire that Christopher Columbus named ‘Costa Rica’ five centuries ago.

About 20 years before he became one of America’s greatest presidents, Roosevelt, always the explorer, went to Europe to climb the famous Matterhorn Mountain in Switzerland. He was distressed by what he encountered on the mountain or, more accurately, what he did not see.

You see, the mountain was just about without life. Where once there had been many, now there were no more bears, wolves, or other wilderness creatures. Ghosts of creatures. But merely memories.

Though “eco tourism” was still about a century away from being coined, Theodore Roosevelt was the world’s first eco tourist and the father of modern eco tourism.

So what on earth do Roosevelt and the Matterhorn have to do with Costa Rica ecotourism? More than you might think. The Matterhorn made him see the need to be able to put aside large tracts of Mother Earth to preserve life and, when he became President, he took on the robber barons and vested interests to set aside 230 million acres as wild animals, turbulent rivers, forests and parks: an extraordinary achievement for America and singular achievement for the planet we all share.

Roosevelt’s vivid prescience resulted in an extraordinary discovery: people would happily spend money to see the outdoors. Sustained use of land through eco tourism had important economic consequences, often more valuable than exploitation in many cases—in the United States.

But, America’s experience was one thing. It was rich and developed. Costa Rica was, seemingly, very different. Here was a place that in 1519 its Spanish Governor called “the poorest and most miserable Spanish colony in all Americas.” Nearly 450 years later, now independent and free, most of its forests had been cut or burned to make pastures and farmland. Big American business dominated its primary product, bananas, and the country was almost completely dependent upon the export of bananas, coffee, and other agricultural products for its economic life. United Fruit Company controlled the banana market and its relations with Costa Rica were often stormy, sometimes icy. Then, in the early 1970s, prices for coffee collapsed during a glut of the product on the world market. The country’s future looked bleak.

Now, nothing in the world is predestined and from the economic crisis arose Costa Rica ecotourism. Challenge always brings with it opportunity and, in a seemingly unlikely alliance, conservationists and business interests argued that sustainable development needed to be given a chance rather than simply continuing to exploit the country’s rapidly declining resources. The government joined forces with conservationists and businesses and embarked on an ambitious experiment, ultimately setting aside nearly 25% of the country for parks and preserves over the following years.

In the span of just 30 years, the results have been spectacular. While most countries were burning and cutting their forests, Costa Rica was reforesting. Today, there are 20% more forests than just 25 years ago. Birds and mammals are returning to places where they haven’t been seen for a generation or more. Costa Rica has enthusiastically embraced sustained development, rejecting the siren’s call of Big Oil by refusing off shore drilling for oil. Indeed almost 100% of its electricity now comes from renewable, non-polluting hydro-electric power and it is embarking on wind turbines for additional generation. Researchers from Columbia and Yale researchers now categorize it in the top 5 of all environmentally sensitive countries in the world.

From “the poorest and most miserable Spanish colony in Americas” it has vaulted into the #1 position on the Happiest Place in the World Index. The Spanish Governor was dead wrong. Columbus was prescient when he named this place “the rich coast” or “Costa Rica”. And, somewhere in the heavens, Theodore Roosevelt is smiling in delight.

To close, we need to end with the Swiss Matterhorn, the place behind Roosevelt’s vision that parks and preserves were essential to saving wildlife and Costa Rica’s courageous extension of that idea leading to today’s incredibly successful Costa Rica eco tourism. Consider the irony here. Costa Rica is often called the “Switzerland” of the tropics but it learned from Swiss failures. Ironically, Switzerland has learned nothing. Costa Rica’s mountains are today filled with life and eco tourism helps fuel its economy. One of every twenty species of plants and animals on earth are found there. Meanwhile, the magnificent Matterhorn remains silent because its life was exploited and destroyed, not cherished and preserved.

Ecotourism In Costa Rica: The Wilderness Called Corcovado Park

By Victor Krumm On February 8th, 2010

Corcovado National Park (Parque Nacional Corcovado) may be known as the Amazon of Costa Rica. For good reason. The little park, only 42,000 hectares (about 100,000 acres) in dimensions, is located on the Osa Peninsula, situated along the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, close to the Panama border.

Most tourists do not realize that Costa Rica got its name from Christopher Columbus who explored the Americas in 1502. He sailed the Caribbean from Mexico south, landed south of what is now Limon, Costa Rica, and named his discovery ‘Costa Rica’ or the ‘rich coast’. We can only imagine what he saw along the way. Spectacular tropical forests covering Central America from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Waters teeming with fish, porpoises, and whales. So many sea turtles that seafarers, lost in the fog, found shore simply by listening to the sounds of tens of thousands of animals paddling towards nesting beaches. Alas, the passage of five centuries has not been kind to either the forests or animals and today most of the primary forests from Mexico to South America have been cut down or burned. Fortunately, Costa Rica had the good sense to preserve Corcovado and its primary rainforest.

Columbus never got to Corcovado. The earliest Western explorer to discover it was Sir Frances Drake. He was the sea captain who destroyed the mighty Spanish Armada in 1588 and saved England from Spain. A a small number of years before that courageous feat, he arrived just north of the Osa Peninsula in a stunning place now named after him: Drake Bay. The bay serves as the gateway to Corcovado

Though Corcovado is quite small, just about 20 miles long and 8 miles wide—-less than half the size of New York City, it’s, as National Georgraphic says: the most biologically intense place on the world. Consider the following: There are 400 different species of birds crammed into this teeny place (the 48 States of the continental United States have approximately 900). The largest remaining Latin America population of the spectacular, and ever more rare, scarlet macaws, is still common here. The Corcovado mammal species represent about ten percent of the kinds of mammals to be found in all of the Americas and they exist on just .000101777 percent of the world’s landmass. There are 116 species of reptile and amphibians and 139 different mammals found here. To put this park’s size in context, you could fit it into Yellowstone more than 22 times! Yet, it contains six different kinds of wild cats, including the magnificent jaguar and puma.

Colorful but seriously endangered frogs such as the red-eyed tree frog, poison-arrow frog and the enigmatic glass frog are all found here. And, this reserve is just one of only a handful of sites in Costa Rica where you will see squirrel monkeys. At night, fishing bats literally scoop fish from the rivers.

The tropical beaches of the Osa Peninsula often appear deserted but during nesting season, thousands of green sea turtles, magnificent rare leatherbacks (up to 1,200 pounds), hawksbills and pacific ridleys arrive to nest. Tapirs are very common and are provide a valuable food source for the crocodiles and jaguars inhabiting the park. Jaguars are the largest cat in the Western Hemisphere and, though endangered, their paw prints, and sometimes the animals themselves, are sighted along the muddy trails that surround the Corcovado Lagoon.

This really is tropical rain forest so assume rain , lots of it—200 inches or more a year. The trees, incredible in their diversity, are as tall as any found in the Amazon, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and it is easy to see why the park is often called the Amazon of Costa Rica. The best time to visit is in the dry months from January to April as the park is inundated by torrential rains from April to December.

Traveling to Es Pujols and Es Calo

By Catalonia Barnachea On February 8th, 2010

Es Calo is an old fishing port and Es Pujols is the modern mecca of resort entertainment. In this article we look at these contrasting Formentera locations. Whilst La Savina is the port these days it used to be Es Calo that was the main point of transportation for sandstone, charcoal and wood. People living in Pilar de La Mola found the location very handy as Es Calo is at the foot of Cami Roma. Today there are also some good fish restaurants in the village, which is to be expected given its heritage.

The beach at Es Calo is on the northern coastline which means it gets windy in the afternoons and is rocky. However, it is well worth visiting in the mornings and the neighboring beach of Ses Plagetes is small but stunning. The rocks attract a l lot of interesting fish so it is one of the best places to enjoy snorkeling.

At just five minutes away from Es Calo Ses Plagetes is very convenient as it provides protection from the winds and you get a decent view of La Mola.

Es Pujols is a contrast to Es Calo and is a beach resort made up of two crescent-shapes looking out onto some islets that people like to swim or paddle over to. Whatever water sport you want to do, they have it here, from canoeing to windsurfing, and even para sailing. The disabled can also access the waters from a special entry point.

Avenida Miramar and Passeig des Plameres are the main thoroughfares of Es Pujols, with each lined by market stalls in the evenings. There are plenty of local hand crafted goods to choose from, and it’s a great atmosphere in which to do some shopping.

If you are looking for an Ibiza-style wild night then you will not find it on Formentera, but the island does have some night clubs in Es Pujols.

Choosing Accommodation on Formentera Island

By Alejandra Abaigar On February 8th, 2010

Formentera is the smallest of the four main Balearic Islands of Mallorca (Majorca), Menorca (Minorca), Eivissa (Ibiza), and Formentera. The two smallest islands of Eivissa and Formentera are collectively known at the Pine Islands, as a result of an abundance of pine trees. The archipelago sits in the Western Mediterranean Sea, just off the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula. Together these islands are an autonomous community and province of Spain. Palma is the capital and the official languages are Spanish and Catalan. Formentera is ten miles south of Eivissa and is accessible only by boat, as it has no airport. But if you make the effort you won’t regret it.

Formentera is a beautiful island, but it has to be said that the accommodation is basic. And there is really only one resort, which is the village of Es Pujols. Es Pujols is a network of low rise buildings built around a crescent-shaped beach and beautiful blue ocean, which is shallow and extremely warm in the summer. You can choose from a range of hotels, apartments and hostels. Some of them have their own swimming pool, but this should not be such a big factor in your decision since you will probably spend most of your time at the beach.

Although Es Pujols is the only resort on the island, there are a number of medium sized hotels in other locations. Cala Saona has one of the largest and ugliest hotels on the island, but its views over Punta Prima are some of the best. There are also a number of hotels on Platja de Mitjorn in the area known as Es Arenals. For many people though the most authentic way to experience the island is to stay in one of its farmhouses. These are located outside the main villages, and are often accessible only on very narrow and bumpy roads.

So where should you stay on Formentera? One great option is around San Ferran because of its central location. It is a good base with a decent range of shops, and you are just five minutes drive from Sant Francesc if there is something you can’t find. It is a 10 minute cycle through vineyards to get to Es Pujols, and if you want to explore quieter beaches you are about the same distances from Platja de Mitjorn and Platja de Tramuntana.

Formentera is a small island so wherever you choose to be based, you will have access to the other parts of the island.

When it comes to identifying Formentera resorts there is really only one option, and that is Es Pujols. For views on other places to stay look at the article http://hubpages.com/hub/Formentera-Resorts.
