What to do if You’re In a Car Rental Accident Without Insurance

By Amy Nutt On December 31st, 2008

A rental car service is very convenient when you need a car to get around or you need one so that you don’t have to put the wear and tear on your own. All you have to do is pay a rental fee and you are able to take that car wherever you need to take it. But what if you get into an accident in a rental car and you didn’t buy their insurance? What does that mean for you?

Insurance options

There are a couple of different options available to you when it comes to insurance. First, your own insurance that you already have may cover you in a rental car. The best way to determine this is to consult with your insurance company about your policy. You need to find out whether or not it allows you to be insured in a rental car.

The second option is to take the insurance through the rental car company. The insurance through the rental car company provides you with the coverage you need in case you’re in an accident. If you don’t have coverage through your insurance company, this is your other option. Just make sure you look at your insurance company’s policy very carefully. You don’t want to pay for insurance through the car rental Sydney company if you don’t have to. You would be amazed how many people think they have to purchase the rental car company’s insurance and the company may not say anything to them about it. If the customer says they want it, then the rental car company is going to give it to them. This is despite whether they really need it or not.

However, there is good news. You don’t have to worry about being in a car accident without having insurance. This is because you have to provide proof of insurance to the rental car company in order to rent a car. If you don’t have insurance, then you are required to purchase their insurance. They will not let you take one of their cars off of the lot unless you have insurance. This is because they can be held liable if something happens that you’re in an accident in their car. They don’t want to have to pay out thousands of dollars in medical bills or be sued because you were driving one of their cars without any insurance.

Compare

Just make sure that you check with the different car rental companies to find the one with the best rates. Their rental rates may be great, but their insurance rates may not be. This means that the total cost of the rental could be considerably higher than another company just because of the insurance. You definitely don’t want that, so make sure you always ask about insurance rates if that is something you need to take.

So as you can see, renting a car is much easier than what you think. As long as you have a license and a credit or debit card to pay for the rental, you’re in business. You don”t have to worry about not being able to rent a car if you don’t have insurance. You also do not have to worry about driving a rental car without insurance. Everything you need is right there with the car rental company. Just make sure you only buy their insurance if you need it. If you don?t because of your own insurance, then you’re going to have lower rates with the car rental company. Lower rates are always a good thing because that keeps more money in your pocket.

Stop! Don’t Go On a Cruise With a Baby Until You Read This

By Brooklyn Sterritt On December 31st, 2008

Our recent Caribbean cruise on Crown Princess ship with our 10 month old daughter was fantastic. We enjoyed it so much that we are starting to plan for another cruise in about a year.

There is some planning to be done beforehand, but the planning is well worth the effort. There are many things that you will need for your baby on the cruise vacation. Here is our list of the top 10 must things to have on a cruise vacation with a young baby.

1. Number one on our list is a comfortable stroller. Comfort for your baby is important - but it also important that the stroller can be folded so that it can be taken on an airplane and so that it won’t take up too much room in your cruise ship cabin. Our stroller was in constant use from morning to night. We walked our daughter on the promenade deck every morning; we took our daughter to all of our meals in her stroller; we didn’t want to miss out on the night-life on the ship - so every evening after dinner we bathed our daughter, dressed her in pyjamas, and then placed her back into her stroller. We then walked the ship with her, went to some clubs on the ship with her and before long she would fall fast asleep.

2. Diapers. Make sure that you pack enough disposable diapers. The way that I figured out how many to take was to the week before our trip I kept track of how many diapers our girl went through each day to get an idea of how many diapers are needed per day. Based on that calculate how many are required during the vacation. We didn’t purchase the diapers at home. We had time between our flight arrival in Ft Lauderdale and the time to board the ship so we took a cab to a Target store and purchased them and some other supplies before getting another taxi to the ship. That way we didn’t have to carry them onto our airplane.

3. Take some swim diapers. All cruise ships have a baby/toddler pool. Babies and toddlers are allowed in the pool if they are toilet-trained or if they wear swim diapers. Our daughter went into the kiddies pool every day - and she always wore swim diapers.

4. If your baby is on formula make sure that you bring enough formula with you for the length of the cruise. We brought powdered formula since it is more compact than pre-mixed formula. Rather than bring it from home, we purchased the required formula in Florida before embarking our ship. Keep in mind that any formula entering the ship must be sealed & in the original container.

5. Kettle - taking a kettle (with an auto shutoff) on the trip means that you can boil water and know that you have safe water to mix with the powdered formula.

6. We took a formula dispenser with us. This allowed us greater flexibility for giving our daughter her bottle. Having the dispenser meant that we filled several bottles at a time with clean water and when baby is ready to have a bottle (anywhere on the ship), we just had to pour the premeasured formula into the bottle and give the bottle a shake.

7. Not having a spot to put your dirty diapers will cause some problems with odor in your cabin on the ship. Let your room steward know that you will have some smelly diapers - he will come to your room more often to remove them. And we took with us scented bags for putting the dirty diapers. They really helped control the odors in our room, and they were also useful on our air flight. They can be purchased at a dollar store or Babies r Us.

8. You’ll need soap for bathing your baby. Eventhough most ship cabins won’t have a tub for bathing your child - you can still do what we did. We plugged the drain on the shower and put enough water in the shower in order to give our baby her bath.

9. Make sure that you bring something to protect your baby from the heat and sun, especially if you plan on spending much time in the sun with your child during the cruise. Before we left home we purchased a lightweight sun cabana. We used the cabana on two beaches and on the pool deck near the kiddies pool. It kept us and our baby comfortable and protected from the sun. To rent a cabana on the private island that our ship stopped would have cost us about $90. The cabana that we brought with us cost less than $50 and we use it all the time.

10. Zip lock bags - these are great for everything - snack holders, put really dirty/soiled clothes away until you get home. Use for things that leak - (ex. medicine). Use the bags on the ship to pack bibs, spoons to go for dinner so when they are dirty you can throw in the bag & clean when you get back to your room.

There are more items to consider, but start your list with these essentials items.

Can You Get Car Rental Even if You Don’t Have Driver’s Insurance?

By Amy Nutt On December 31st, 2008

Something that concerns a lot of individuals looking to rent cars is whether or not they can rent the car without having their own driver’s insurance. Why would someone not already have driver’s insurance? Well, they may live in a city in which their own transportation is not needed, so they use public transportation. This may mean that they don’t have a car. However, they may have their license.

Most individuals who have cars have driver’s insurance. But once in a while there is that person who comes to the car rental establishment and they don’t have a car. That means they don’t have insurance. So what does that mean for them when wanting to rent a car? Are they going to be able to rent the car? The answer might surprise you.

No insurance?

So let’s say you walk into your local car rentals place and you tell them you don’t have insurance. Do you think they’re going to look at you like you’re a terrible person? The truth is that they won’t. They’re not going to look at you like you’re terrible because there are plenty of people who walk into their establishment and they don’t have insurance.

Here is how they do it:

- The car rental establishment will make a copy of your driver’s license. From there they will then tell you what your options are. They may also offer you other things that you may or may not need, so make sure you’re not going to end up paying for things that you don’t need.

- If you tell them that you don’t have driver’s insurance, then they will let you know that they have an insurance plan for you. You will have to purchase that insurance plan if you don’t have insurance of your own or your insurance doesn’t cover rental cars.

That’s another issue - that some insurance companies may not cover rental cars. This has to do with what sort of insurance you have taken out with them. If you have a full coverage plan, you can expect that a rental car is going to be covered. If you have a liability plan, you need to look closely at what you have purchased. Either way, you’re going to have to provide the car rental business with a copy of your insurance card.

But if you don’t have an insurance card, that’s alright. They will offer you their own insurance, which will cover you while you rent the car. The prices will vary based on the business you decide to do business with. So if you don’t have driver’s insurance, make sure you make this part of the deal when shopping around for a company. Make sure you find the best rate or you may find you’re paying more for insurance than what you need to.

Problem solved

So now you can see how easy it is to solve the problem. If you don’t have driver’s insurance, that is definitely not an issue. If you have a license, then you’re in business. The only reason why someone should have to worry about not being able to rent a car is if they are too young or they are not licensed to drive. Other than those two things, you should be fine when it comes to renting a car anywhere in the world. So at least you now know that you don’t have to worry if you need to rent a car and you have no insurance. That is just one more thing that you can add to the things that you know.

Lake George New York

By LJ James On December 30th, 2008

As a Biker I love to take long Rides on my 2007 Harley Davidson, Nightrain. Some times a trip to Connecticut where one has the freedom of choice to decided if they want to wear a Helmet or not is a great place to go. Often I head up to the NY Catskill Mountains, Where a Burger and a Beer at Nicks Waterfall House in West Conesville can be the perfect end to a day of Cruising threw the Mountains.

Then there is another of my Favorite places to ride to, The Lake George NY area. My Uncle has a small Cabin in the Mountains right outside of the town of Lake George where I often stay. The area has some great long and winding roads for riding, These roads will relax even the most stressed Motorcycle rider.

There is so much history to the Lake George NY area. While on a trip one year riding around with no real destination in mind, I found myself in front of Fort Ticonderoga (fort-ticonderoga.org). Being very interested in American History I had to stop in and take the tour. The Fort was built between 1755 and 1759 and has plenty of stories to tell. It had a big roll in the American Revolution. As I walked around the Fort the I could almost imagine I had traveled back to the 18Th Century, The things I learned reminded me of the sacrifices our fore Fathers made to secure the Freedoms we enjoy and let slip threw our fingers every day.

Another thing I like to do is ride on some of the less traveled roads. Riding on a road where you see nothing but Forests and small Waterfalls for miles is very relaxing. I like to search out small little Dinners and eatery’s, Stopping at them and trying some of the foods they have to offer.

I recently met up with my Mother, Sister, Brother, Nieces, Nephew and other members of my family at the Lake George Escape Evergreen Resort Campgrounds (LakeGeorgeEscape.com), I found it a great places for me to relax for a few days. There where plenty of activities for the kids and many activities I could enjoy with the kids. In the resorts game room I won my Nieces and Nephew many prizes and I played (or maybe Battled is a more accurate word) Air Hockey with my younger Brother in the game room for hours. The resort has a pond and two pools to Swim in. Each week at the resort during the Summer has a thyme and while we where there it was Halloween week. The Camp Grounds has Nightly Hay rides around the Camp Grounds and since it was Halloween week my Brother came up with the idea of throwing out candy to all the kids as we took a Hay ride around the grounds one night. The Cherry on the top of this great resort has to be the on Grounds full service Tiki style Bar where most Nights they had a DJ to help keep the party going!

Many other things I have stopped to enjoy while riding around and staying in the Lake George area is White Water rafting, Hiking and many Trips to Six Flags Great Escape & Splash Water Kingdom. The park was known as Storytown USA when it first opened in 1954. As a Kid I used to love to watch the gun fights in its old western area known as Ghost town. The park may be much larger now and have many modern day Rides and attractions, but all the old Story town, Jungleland and Ghost town areas from the 50’s and 60s are still there! Then of course there is the town of Lake George it self with many great stores for shopping including a new shop I found last year called DILLIGAF’s. Many Arcades, Museum’s, Para Sailing, Night Clubs and Many Places to eat including some Waterfront Restaurants. Now in my opinion no trip to Lake George can be Complete without a Paddle wheel Cruise on the historic and scenic Lake George itself. The lake is known as the Queen of American Lakes. There are Two maybe three Companies you can use, But I recommend you take your trip on the Lake George Steamboat Company’s (lakegeorgesteamboat.com) Minnie-Ha-Ha. I have Pictures of me getting on this Boat with my Family that go back many years.

As Bikers We are always looking for Great places to ride to alone or with our friends and family that offer both great riding areas and many things to do. I have found Lake George to be a great area for both!

Maybe I will see you there! Your Bro L.J. James AmericanBikerX.com

From the sights and sounds of the Big Apple to the country comforts of Eastern Pennsylvania to the seascapes of the Maryland coast, the Mid-Atlantic region is sure to entice even the pickiest traveler.

One of the easiest ways to approach a vacation is to plan an itinerary — a step-by-step plan of your journey including maps, places to visit and your lodging choices. You might decide to spend your vacation in New York City or perhaps head off the beaten path for a tour of the Delmarva Peninsula, which includes parts of Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.

Travel writer Karen Brown has compiled several detailed itineraries that cover the best of the region. Whether you long for a quiet vacation or one filled with hustle and bustle of the big city, Karen Brown’s World of Travel has plenty of great ideas, as well as maps and exceptional places to stay. Her readers have chosen the following inns and hotels as the best in the Mid-Atlantic:

Whatever your definition of a romantic getaway, you’ll find the perfect lodging at the Antrim 1844 Country House Hotel in Taneytown, Maryland. The main house of this 24-acre former plantation is a meticulously restored gem listed in the National Register of Historic Places. There are nine guest rooms in this home, each with period dcor and a wood-burning fireplace; some also have a clawfoot or Jacuzzi tub. There are also 30 more accommodations, spread throughout the property. Among the offerings is a cottage that once served as the plantation’s ice house and Smith House, a two-story home with several romantic suites, all featuring period dcor. Karen Brown readers have chosen this hotel as the Mid-Atlantic’s “Most Romantic” lodging.

Enjoy exceptional accommodations, fine cuisine and an idyllic country setting at the Inn at Turkey Hill. This Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, inn was chosen by Karen Brown readers as the “Greatest Value” in the Mid-Atlantic. Two of the guest rooms are located in the main house, a picturesque historic farmhouse that dates to 1839. Other rooms and suites surround the inn’s main courtyard or are located in the luxurious Stable rooms, which include double whirlpool tubs. The inn has a gourmet restaurant and a cozy tavern where you can relax and enjoy a glass of wine from the inn’s extensive wine list.

The Inn at Warner Hall is located on a former plantation that was founded by George Washington’s great-great-grandfather. The Gloucester, Virginia, inn is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and within easy driving distance to several important historic attractions, including the early settlement of Jamestown and the site of the Battle of Yorktown. The innkeepers have restored their historic home with loving attention to detail. Each of the eleven guest rooms features a selection of fine antiques; several rooms include a fireplace or a spa tub. Breakfasts are served in a lovely glassed-in porch. Warner Hall was chosen by Karen Brown readers as the recipient of the Mid-Atlantic’s “Warmest Welcome” award.

Some lodgings are special because of their hospitality, some for their dcor, others for the location. At Hotel Plaza Athenee any and all of these special features apply. Named by Karen Brown readers as the Mid-Atlantic’s top “Splendid Splurge,” this posh boutique hotel is located one block from Central Park in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. City and park views, posh European dcor and fine furnishings grace the rooms and suites. The hotel’s restaurant, Arabelle, is a little bit of Paris in New York City, serving a mix of American and French cuisine in a romantic setting.

A Little More About Catamaran Sailing

By Ferdinand Mekinsy On December 30th, 2008

Catamaran sailing is not something you can learn on the regular sailing programs, this is so because most navigation practice is carried out on monohulls. The reason for such measures is the higher difficulty to operated multihulls as it is the case with the catamaran. Sailing experience combined with personal enthusiasm will eventually help one sail a catamaran, and enjoy the stability, the speed and the challenge of such a boat.

What are the elements to consider for one who is ready to invest in sailing gear? First of all, gloves and special foot wear like dinghy boots for instance, are first on the list. Then, there is the life jacket and the foul weather sailing gear. The latter includes both pants and jacket that keep off humidity. And last but not least, there are the wet and dry suits that should not miss from the sailor’s wardrobe; they keep you warm even in water or on very cold weather.

The most common mistake people make on their first sailing vacations is to pack way too much. Casual is the word to describe life on an island, so you won’t be needing fancy clothes and all sorts of gadgets. Sailing vessels impose limitations in terms of storage space, and hard-sided luggage are surely not a good idea to take with you. Go for canvas or duffel bags that can be folded into occupying less room. Small baggage that can be taken with you on the plane also save you the trouble of having to deal with lost luggage when you arrive on the island.

Widely spread in the entire Oceania and Polynesia, catamaran sailing had a great influence on the design of leisure boats with multiple hulls. The power engine represents the options to wind and water current power in catamaran propelling, however the true feeling of the sea is attained by understanding the winds and decoding the message of the waves.

There are many types of sand yachts used for land sailing, and according to their distinct features, such vehicles compete in variety of classes. Thus, the biggest yachts in land sailing competitions are known as Class 2. All of them have very large masts with big sails that lend significant power to the vehicles; yet, the size could be an impediment to reaching high speed. More popular than Class 2 is Class 3 that is very similar in design, but on a smaller scale. Designed according to high-tech principles, such yachts make land sailing really fast. Usually made of fiberglass, Kevlar and carbon fiber, these vehicles will get a 60miles per hours during a race.

Free Guidelines to Getting Around Spain’s Costa Del Sol In A Hire Car

By Travel Guru On December 30th, 2008

Finding Your Way Around Spain’s Costa Del Sol In A Car

Over the entire Costa Del Sol region there is plenty of choice in Costa Del Sol Villas and for a good selection look no further than a Villa in Casares. But what is there to when you are there?

The best way to get around the Costa del Sol is in a hire car, as this allows you the freedom to visit the different towns and villages as and when you want, without needing to rely on public transport.

Here is a guide to just a few of the cultural and historical attractions surrounding Costa del Sol that you can visit during your holiday:

The city of Malaga should be the first call for any culture lover visiting the Costa del Sol. Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga in 1881 and you can visit the house in which he was born, the Casa Natal de Picasso, which is found in the Plaza del Merced. The three-storey building contains personal items belonging to the Picasso family together with examples of Picasso’s prints, ceramics and graphic art. There is also a large collection of works by further contemporary artists.

A couple of minutes walk from the Casa Natal de Picasso is the Museo Picasso M?laga (Picasso Museum), which opened in 2003. It is housed in the 16th century Palacio de Buenavista and has twelve permanent exhibition galleries where you can see paintings, drawings, sculptures and ceramics by Picasso. The museum also holds regular temporary exhibitions. If you’re a history buff, you’ll also be in for a treat on the lower ground floor, as you’ll be able to see the preserved Roman and Phoenician ruins uncovered when the museum was under construction.

Additional Costa del Sol attractions that you can see if you stop off in Malaga during your Costa del Sol holiday include Malaga’s historic fortress, the Alcazaba, and the 14th century Gibralfaro Castle.

If architecture is your interest, ensure that you allow time to visit Fuengirola. Getting around Costa del sol is easy if you try car hiring and Fuengirola and is about a half hour drive from Malaga and has a rich history.

Over the centuries it has been settled in by the Romans, Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Arabs and its architecture displays many influences and archaeologists have uncovered some special ruins and artefacts there. The Roman sculpture known as “Venus of Fuengirola” is the most famous artefact to have been discovered in Fuengirola. You can visit this, along with many other artefacts, in the town’s Museo de Historia (Museum of History).

You can also use a Costa del Sol hire car to drive to the edge of the town to visit the Castillo de Sohail. This now restored castle dates back to the 11th century and is open to the public. It is also used as a location for theatrical performances and festivals.
