By Thomas Clarke On March 10th, 2010

When traveling around the country, trying to see all of the great natural and manmade wonders that the US has to offer, South Dakota and Mount Rushmore is certainly at the top of the list. While your choices are vast and the places to visit are varied, there is something special about seeing the sculpted faces of those great presidents staring down from the mountain. Along with certain monuments in Washington D.C. this is a US historic monument that should be visited if possible.

There are many other man made wonders that are also worth your time to visit. Starting with the arch in St. Louis, then the Empire State Building in New York. Of course, let us not forget to mention the recognizable lady of our country, The Statue of Liberty, in New York.

The launch pad at Cape Canaveral and a Space Shuttle launch is an amazing experience to see in person. There is just something about feeling the roar of the huge engines as it hurtles towards space. A day launch is cool, but seeing a launch that lights up the night or early morning sky is even cooler.

In that respect there are so numerous wonderful locations to explore as well as witness, only there’s something exceptional about Rushmore. Process on the carving commenced in 1927 and wasn’t finished till 1941. The approximated monetary value of the project equaled just below one million dollars and over four hundred tons of stone was abstracted to obtain the carving. Annually, according to the national park service, more than three million travelers go through the park and wonder at the accomplishment. The park is situated in the famed Black Hills of South Dakota and in that location there are numerous of outside activities for travelers to have.

There are coordinated events for travelers and if you sign on ahead of time and your application is admitted, your scout group can take part in the flag bringing up ceremony in front of the monument. Several outdoor activities are obtainable from hiking up and sportfishing as well as camping out in the camping site field. It’s an excellent educational experience and is genuinely a vision to lay eyes on as well as adds a feel of marvel and awe to youngsters and grownups of every age. Embassies and Consulates - Where To Turn For Help When Traveling Outside Of Canada

By Adriana Noton On February 25th, 2010

Every year, millions of Canadians travel outside the country for business and personal activities. Most trips result in a memorable travel experience; however, there are times when unexpected troubling events occur. When an alarming incident does occur in another country, it can often be a stressful and frightening time. Fortunately, there are places Canadians can turn to for help.

When Canadians plan to travel out of the country, they are able to get assistance in more than 150 countries at more than 260 offices. There are Consular offices that offer services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Consular staff is trained to provide Canadian citizens with helpful aid for an extensive range of travel issues. Canadians traveling outside of Canada can get in touch with the closest Canadian Government office or call the DFAIT’s Operations Centre. The DFAIT not only provides consular services, but it also services other government departments and agencies which includes the Public Health Agency of Canada, Canada Border Services Agency, Passport Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and the Department of National Defence.

If you plan to travel abroad, it is important to find out the location of Government of Canada offices in the countries you plan to visit and make sure you keep the contact information with you when traveling. Located on the Consular Affairs website, the Global Issues and Country Travel Reports section has the most current information on the safety and security conditions, health issues, and entry and visa requirements for over 200 travel destinations. Before your flights, it is important to provide your family or friends with a travel schedule and your contact details while traveling, as well as the emergency number for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada ((613) 996-8885 outside Canada; 1 800 267-6788 or (613) 944-6788 in Canada).

Consular officials can help Canadians with such issues as evacuation from a war zone, civil unrest, or a natural disaster. They will also give travelers a list of hospitals and local doctors in the event of a medical emergency, assist with legal issues that includes providing a list of local lawyers and local laws, provide assistance for victims of a crime such as a mugging, and help locate abducted children and missing persons. It is recommended that travelers purchase travel insurance to make sure they are protected in an emergency such as a medical emergency. Consular officials will also contact next of kin, replace expired, stolen, or lost passports, notarize documents, and provide a limited translation service. Some of these services will require a service fee. If you find yourself in a difficult situation in a place where the Canadian Government does not have an office, you should look for another country’s office such as the United States, Australia, or Britain. To make sure you are protected, you should register with a Canadian Government office before departure.

Because you do not always know what to expect when you travel to another country, it is important that you know what to do in case of an emergency. Being equipped with the right information will make any emergency much less stressful and easier to resolve.

Airfare Fine Print - What You Need To Know Before You Buy

By Adriana Noton On February 20th, 2010

When most people purchase an airline ticket, they do not bother to take the time to read the fine print. The details tend to be long and confusing, which makes reading it an unpleasant task. Airlines would rather have their travelers avoid looking into the details of airfare fine print because they contain all sorts of restrictions to help the airlines capitalize on additional revenue. When considering reading airfare fine print, it is important for consumers to ask themselves: Would I buy a car without knowing about the terms and conditions? So why wouldn’t you want to know about the airfare terms and conditions? Just like any other product or service such as purchasing a car, it is essential that travelers read the fine print to ensure that they understand and comply with the specific requirements for that fare as defined by the airline. Below are a few things you should know before you book your next flight.

Ticket Change and Refund Policies: Most cheap airline tickets are non-refundable. However, for a fee, you can usually exchange the tickets for another flight time. The cost to change a flight will vary and re-routing is usually not permitted.

Flight Dates: Airlines will normally have certain conditions for a traveler to take advantage of a deal on their tickets. Some airline deals state that flights have to be booked a certain number of days prior to travel. It is important to know the specific days in advance of the flight so you do not miss out on a great travel deal. Airlines will also have designated days of the week where they offer cheaper flights. There are often conditions that require a traveler to stay a certain number of days at the destination to receive a special deal. As well, there are certain times of the year when cheaper travel deals are not available (blackout dates) such as during a peak flight season like Christmas.

Frequent-Flyer Travel Restrictions: Most people take advantage of frequent-flyer miles and points to get a free or greatly discounted flight. It is important to be aware that there are certain times of the year when people cannot use their awards such as during peak flight season. However, in many airline reward programs, you can get a seat on almost any flight if you double your air miles when you book your flight during a black out time.

One-Way and Round-trip Tickets: Airlines often emphasize the special one-way price for an airfare, however, in some instances the price is only offered when buying a round-trip ticket. As well, whether it is a one-way or round trip ticket, it is important to read over the terms and conditions such as the minimum/maximum stay, how long prior to the flight that one has to purchase the ticket and the hidden costs included in the ticket such as insurance, taxes, security charge…etc.

Airlines will usually reveal some regulations and conditions at the time of booking, but they do not usually cover them all and what they tell you is usually a summary. Before you begin your travel preparations, it is important to read the fine print to make certain that you are able to meet the terms of the airline’s flight requirements.

Vacationing Along The Coast

By Thomas Clarke On February 1st, 2010

Whenever someone visits the east coast on a vacation they tend to always lead to the state of Florida. Although Florida has a lot ot offer and is one of the largest tourist states in the whole US there is much more to the east coast than just this one state.

Georgia has plenty to offer. There is a long coastline with plenty of choices in beaches, there is also a large city called Atlanta that has plenty to do. Atlanta has plenty of local events, but they also have a professional football team, basketball team, hockey team and a baseball team. It doesn’t matter what time of year you visit, there is always a sporting event to go to. Along with the big city, there are also smaller towns and old world charm in places like Savannah. Savannah has the charm and feel of an old southern town, which can make you feel right at home.

Next stop would be South and North Carolina. These states also do not lack in beaches, but they are also home to many mountains and some of the most beautiful scenery. There is a lot to see and do in these states, and you can even stop at South of the Border, located in between the two states, for some family fun for all ages.

If these things aren’t enough, keep moving up the coast and I am sure you will find even more great things to do. Virginia is the next stop and has plenty of things to offer a traveler or vacationer. It also puts you really close to our nations capital, Washington D.C. With all the monuments and museums in D.C., it could take a normal person weeks just to see every exhibit in the Smithsonian.

Up north a little further and you are in the “big apple”. NYC is one of the most famous destinations to visit by both New Yorkers and those that live out of the state. From Broadway to Rockefeller Center there is so much to see and do that you will never have a dull moment.

Cheap airfares are important now because money is tight and people are traveling for the season. Getting a cheap flight through Expedia is easy.

A Family Vacation That All Will Enjoy

By Thomas Clarke On January 28th, 2010

Picking out a great vacation for the family is not as easy as it sounds. There can be big differences in what everybody likes or wants to do. Now, taking out the fact that parents would like to do something relaxing and maybe even romantic, there are still things that are family friendly. Also, if anybody tries to talk you into taking a family vacation in Las Vegas, get as far away from them as possible. Do it quickly, nobody needs friends like that. That town is not appropriate for children and only single people should be allowed in the city limits.

So what does that leave, if you can’t go somewhere relaxing, romantic or to Las Vegas, where do you take the family? Well, there are plenty of places. Let’s assume that going overseas is not an option, for simplicity’s sake. That leaves you with fifty great states, cruises and even Canada, which contrary to popular belief, does have things to do for fun.

The obvious places are easy, the beach or mountains. Depending on where you live, there is the option of visiting the ocean along the east or west coast and along the Gulf of Mexico. For people who already live near the ocean, the mountains can be more of a draw. The Smokey Mountains for the eastern US and the Rockies for the west are great destinations. California even has its own range for people that live there. Spending a week in the mountains or at the beach can be a great vacation and there are so many things to do from skiing, water or snow, swimming, hiking and biking, to scuba diving and camping.

For people who want a little more structure and want all of their vacation in an easy to open container, a theme park or a cruise is a great option. These all inclusive vacations are easy to plan and easy to keep the agenda straight. You know exactly where you are going to be each day and you even know when and where you will eat dinner each night. It can take some of the stress out of a vacation, which is supposed to be relaxing to begin with.

These are all great family things to do and there should be something for everybody to do. Planning is easy as well, with just a few clicks of a mouse you can have everything done.

You can find cheap airfares are great discounts on www.expedia.com. When you travel for the holidays, finding a cheap flight can really make the entire trip better.
