Several Fast Tips For Getting The Most Savings On UK Flights

By Zelma Abasta On March 12th, 2010

Getting the greatest savings on UK flights is easy if you are flexible and take a little time to research before you make plans. By following a few simple tips, you travel costs will be significantly reduced.

There is a lot to be said for planning a holiday. But, there are some areas where, if you can hold off on making a commitment, you will save a lot of money. The key to saving money when flying lies in flexibility. If you can be flexible about your departure and return dates and even the destination, you can reap the rewards of getting great bargains from many airlines.

Leaving at an odd hour will also save money on your flight. By departing at an hour when few people travel, you will be able to save money on the cost of the flight. When you are going to do this, it may be necessary to stay at the airport hotel the night before your departure. However, this expense will usually still keep the cost of your flight below that of a ticket during regular flying hours.

If you are going to be staying at your destination for several days, mailing your luggage to your destination will be less expensive than paying the check-in fee for your luggage. In addition, you will be able to pack the items that airlines do not allow on planes. You will have your own shampoo, toothpaste, razor, and other items that you would have to buy if you paid to check your bags in for your flight.

Another way to save on flights will make a real adventure out of your holiday. Checking airlines that fly to your destination and backtracking, you can usually flight a round-about route to your destination that is less expensive than a direct flight. You might need to do some checking to find the most affordable flights, but it can save a substantial amount of money when you are planning a vacation.

Another savings can be found in your timing on making reservations. Making a reservation at least 21-days ahead of your trip will often result in a savings. But, an even greater savings can be obtained if you take the opportunity found in the last minute bargains that are posted regularly by airlines. This will require that you be somewhat flexible about your destination, but there are some great adventures that are found quite by accident in taking a bargain flight at the last minute.

Never travel on holidays or during tourist seasons, including school holidays. Check with your destination to find out when their tourist season is and plan your trip right before the season starts or right after it ends. You will get all of the great weather and benefits of the peak season at off-season prices. When checking with you destination, find out when the school holidays are. If you travel to Florida in the US during April, you are going to pay a premium rate for everything because that is when the Spring break for University Students are. However, if you travel there in March or May, you will get the great weather at half the price.

By taking some time to research your destination and checking costs of multiple airlines, you will be able to get the greatest savings on your UK flights. The costs of a holiday are greatly reduced when a person is flexible and is willing to adapt.

Flights to Bangkok

By Tom Martens On March 12th, 2010

Cheap flights to Bangkok are easy to find thanks to healthy competition for this route. All flights to Bangkok from the UK are out of London Heathrow. British Airways and Quantas offer Bangkok flights, as well as flights to Singapore and Hong Kong, as one of its stopping points on the “kangaroo route” to Australia. Also try Thai Airways and Taiwanese carrier, Eva Airways.

There are two major airports in Bangkok. THe older Don Muang Airport was one of southeast Asia’s busiest, but it has been supplanted by the new Bangkok International Suvarnabhui Airport. The new airport has the world’s largest enclosed terminal as an example of the investment that Thailand is making in its infrastructure. Both airports are within’ miles of the city of Bangkok, and buses, taxis, and hired cars will transport you to either one.

The best time to visit Bangkok is during the busy season which is during November to March, but you will have to shell out more money to enjoy the experience. Weather conditions are perfect at this time of the year and you will surely have a comfortable stay. The only rider is that you will have to spend almost double charges on flights and hotel accommodation as compared to lean season. During lean season, rates are quite less, but the weather is not conducive as it rains during that time making the weather hot and humid. There is rainfall in this area between June to October.

While there are many beaches and resorts in Thailand, many people still flock to Bangkok. Bangkok will not disappoint an tourist or person, as there is a lot of history and culture to be seen and taken in.

Thailand’s culture center since the’th century, Bangkok is also the country’s bustling capital. Peaceful Thai villages nestle among glass buildings and stylish restaurants. World-class nighttime entertainment is a stroll away and shoppers can find everything from antiques to designer clothing.

Getting around Bangkok on foot is an option, but it is slow. Tuk-tuks and cabs are inexpensive and almost always faster than walking. You also have the option of taking the BTS sky train, subway, bus or river taxi. Drivers are aggressive in Bangkok, so if you want the convenience of your own car, hire a car and driver for the day.

A word about tuk-tuks: all fares are negotiated, so do not get in until you have settled the fare. The drivers will try to talk you into going on special shopping trips or insist the attraction you want to see is closed. They will offer to take you for free if you will stop at their friend’s shop on the way. All these are scams in which the driver gets a cut of what you spend buying trinkets at an over-inflated price.

Some places you will want to check out will in Bangkok are the National Museum and the Grand Palace. The National Museum will allow you the opportunity to learn the history of Thailand. While the Grand Palace allows you to see one of the most famous architectural symbols. And it is sill in use by the Thai Royal Family for ceremonies

Wat Pho, Temple of the Reclining Buddha is Bangkok’s oldest, largest and most famous temple. The Reclining Buddah is 157 feet long and 49 feet high, gold plated and inlaid with mother of pearl on the soles of its feet. The Joe Luis Theater holds unique nightly puppet theater performances. The puppeteers are trained dancers and are also on stage, playing an integral part of the show.

Private Pilot Tips - Having Trouble With Motion Sickness?

By Bruce Hogan On March 11th, 2010

It’s almost humorous to see a pilot student who has absolutely no fear of being up in the air at all and yet the motion creates nausea to the point of being sick to their stomach. This becomes most devastating and frustrating for the young students as they find it most difficult to be able to concentrate on what they have to do while in the air and yet still control themselves from being sick to their stomach.

It is no different than any other type of motion sickness and there are several things that can be done about it. If the individual knows that they have a tendency to be sick when it comes to motion then they could even discuss this with their family physician to see what could be taken safely to help control it.

It goes without saying that no drugs, whether prescription or over-the-counter to control motion sickness that has any side effects could be used. One of the drawbacks of using this type of medication is quite often it makes the individual drowsy. It is critical that the student pilot be totally alert. Even the aftermath from taking this type of medication can have its effects. there’s a couple of things that one can do though that will perhaps help.

One of the best solutions of course is not to be partying the night before your flight. The very fact of being hung over and having motion sickness together must be the most devastating feeling one could have.

There are some individuals that have tried acupressure and find that it works really well then there are a lot of Chinese herbs as well that are excellent for motion sickness. These are totally safe to take and have no side effects to them.

One may also want to try drinking cold water in small amounts when this happens. Another excellent drink to take is a little bit of ginger and water as this has a great effect on settling the stomach down. The same with eating crackers prior to the flight will help.

Many pilots that suffer for motion sickness feel that if they don’t eat before a flight it will better for them. The problem is this may stop the vomiting, but it certainly doesn’t stop the nausea and it interferes with the concentration.

The deep breathing exercises also help as well to soothe the stomach. Some individuals even suggest that this could be a psychological condition and self-help hypnosis is an excellent resource. The best thing to do is to try all the different ways that are available until you can find one that works specifically for you.

If this seems to be a serious problem than what you might want to do is discuss it with your flight instructor. There is no doubt that they have had a multitude of other students going through the same thing you are and they may be able to give you some good advice.

What Are The Post Solo Requirement For Private Pilots

By Bruce Hogan On March 10th, 2010

There seems to be a lot of indecision and mixed feelings when it comes to the solo flying requirements that an individual must do to obtain their private pilot’s license. It would seem that there are some that are of the mind that there should be no progression until the flow of solo flights is completed, whereas others believe that these requirements can be met at any given time and not just at a specific time.

There are still some stringent rules applied to solo flying a cross-country flight and not being able to go beyond 25 miles is one of the mandates until the solo flights are completed. Furthermore, the individual must always land where they began, and they are not allowed to land at outside runways.

Naturally the would be pilot training is striving for the moment when he can fly on his own. The only way he is going to be able to do this meaning to go across country is complete the proper training that is applicable to the plane that he wants to use for this trip.

He also has to convince his instructor that he is well versed in all the procedures that are going to be required to participate in this endeavor. He also has to be willing to accept whatever restrictions the instructor sees fit to place on this trip. Although that’s a very brief outline, there is a lot more that goes with it. It will depend once again on what the instructor feels is correct.

There is no way you would be able to take this type of trip without being able to read the applicable charts. You also are going to need to be able to put your compass to good use and understand what this is telling you. Then you have to be able to understand what the weather’s going to do and decipher any of the reports for the particular time that you are planning your trip. Then on top of this there are all the traffic patterns that you must know as well, which are part of keeping you safe while you are in the air. This is in case of any difficulty and also for communication. You have to know how to work your radio properly.

If one thinks that they can get away with being weak in any of these points then not only are they fooling themselves, but they are putting themselves in grave danger. There is no way that any instructor will allow any student to do a cross-country flight that is not fully capable of handling any potential emergency that they may come across. It is not just the safety of the student pilot that is a concern here but the general safety of others that are flying as well.

Any individual that breaks any of these rules will not only not be able to get their pilots license, but they would probably be expelled from the course itself. The flying instructor schools must remain critical, and they’re the ones that set the criteria for their students in order for them to be able to pass their final flying exam.

What You Should Do After You Got Your Pilot License

By Bruce Hogan On March 10th, 2010

It’s always exciting when you complete one of your great ambitions in life and that you accomplish it successfully. It doesn’t seem long though before the excitement or self-satisfaction fades and what you have accomplished now is just being taken for granted. This is often the case with individuals that get their private pilot’s license.

It would seem that after spending so much time concentrating on their studies and utilizing all their free time to complete their course that the excitement and anticipation would remain. In many cases though it just doesn’t seem to be that way.

This could be because many times when one is taking a course such as a private pilot course that it becomes such a burden and almost mind-boggling type scenario that one just wants to break away from it once it’s completed.

This is really doing an injustice to oneself however, when you have been able to obtain a private pilot’s license and you are not using it to your advantage.

We should really think of being able to utilize this in your free time and for your holidays. After all no doubt you paid a fair amount of money to gain this privilege so why not use it. One also has to admit that being able to pilot one’s own plane is the height of enjoyment and an alternate way of getting away from all the stress.

If you find that the excitement is just not there anymore perhaps you need to go further with your training so that you can fly bigger planes or do more. Obviously there was a passion there for flying in the first place or you would never have attempted to get your license. It might be time to sit down and take a look and see why you have lost your zest for flying and see if you can gain it back

Perhaps if you started to plan some short trips now the enthusiasm would come back to you. Another thing you may want to do is try and contact some of your classmates that graduated with you. Perhaps a reunion where you can meet at a central point would put back some of the joy that you obviously experienced in the beginning.

Perhaps you are under a lot of stress at the moment and time constraints and are just not getting the time that you would like. It is important though that you do slot some time for some recreation. Ideally in your particular case being a private pilot than taking a trip somewhere would be the perfect medicine for stress.

Then again maybe you find that flying on your own is lonely. However with your license you should be able to take at least one guest with you. So why not invite someone for a weekend away where you would enjoy not only being able to fly yourself but to enjoy a new location with some fresh sights away from home.

Little Known Ways To Evaluate Air Ambulances

By Denise K Wayne On March 10th, 2010

Air ambulances are aircrafts that may be used to get to a medical emergency where other more traditional automotive ambulances are not able to. An air ambulance is also often employed when immediate moving to a hospital or medical facility is crucial. Calamities can occur anytime, anywhere. There are instances when the landscape is too unmanageable or too impractical to transport by roads. An air ambulance allows medical care to get to the people in need quickly and efficiently.

Of course, not all air ambulance services are created equal. There are myriad points to look for when selecting an air ambulance service. For instance, think about the safety of the aircraft. All airplanes are required by the Federal Aviation Authority to go through minimum check-ups. Try to find an air ambulance service that goes the extra mile, with a reputation for keeping their aircrafts in tip-top condition.

Also, see if the service is equipped to cope with medical crises while in flight. Medical emergencies cannot be anticipated, so opt for an air ambulance service that is outfitted to cope with all possible situations. Choose air ambulances that are outfitted like ICUs at common hospitals. This greatly reduces the liability of being ill-prepared for an emergency in flight, and should provide you with peace of mind.

While the equipment on hand is important to the safety and health of a patient in flight, the flight staff and medical crew are just as critical. Select a medevac service that gives its crew special preparation as in-flight medical professionals. Not all nurses are made to be flight paramedics. Having specialized training in the field of flight physiology will make a major difference to the competence of the medical crew to look after a patient while in transport.

Another aspect to consider is how quickly an air ambulance service can be arranged. Medical emergencies are just that: catastrophes. The medical help called for is immediate. It matters not how fast an air ambulance is if it requires a whole just to mobilize it. Look for an air ambulance that focuses on immediate deployment. You should be opting for a service that deploys within two hours of getting authorization.

Of course, cost is certainly something to factor when choosing air ambulances. While one cannot put a price on ensuring the medical needs of the patient are met, an effort should always be made to select an air ambulance service that provides you the best worth for your money. Ask to see a quote and ask for a guarantee that the price you are quoted is the price you will be paying when everything is said and done.

When employing the best available service, an air ambulance can prove to be very helpful in administering immediate medical care to a loved one in need. Keep the points mentioned before in mind when choosing air ambulances so that you may get an ideal flight experience.

By Bruce Hogan On February 26th, 2010

It is not unusual when you ask a youngster what they want to do when they grow up that he will tell you that he would like to be a fighter pilot. These same youngsters, however, once reaching adulthood most often do not follow their passion as a child. It’s not because they have given up their dream of becoming a fighter pilot it’s the fact that they haven’t known exactly which way to pursue it.

There are some basic steps that one would have to take to become a fighter pilot, but it is certainly something that is achievable and even a young adult can still go about fulfilling their dream.

Step one The very first the decision that would have to be made of course is to what sort of armed forces an individual is prone to wanting to go into. The requirement of becoming an officer is part of becoming a pilot fighter and that this means a choice of the Navy or the Marines.

They are both totally different atmospheres and the decision really should be based on what one seems to think they would enjoy more.

Step two There is also medical health to consider as well to become a pilot. One has to be in good health and there are certain physical requirements as well as to be able to claim good eyesight.

Step four This is where you now have to learn how to become a pilot before you even become a fighter pilot. You can expect to be low man on the totem pole until you have been able to complete your course to the point where you have received your pilot wings. Be prepared for some hard work because there are two segments of your course.

There is the textbook study which will be your academics and then there is your “hands on” experience to be gained. Your flight teacher will be scrutinizing everything you do through the entirety of your course.

Step five This is where your training will continue. Now here you will be really challenged as you will be exposed to wilderness survival. Here you will have to show that you are able to survive in adverse conditions such as being stranded in any dense forests with nothing to eat or drink. You will have to prove you’re able to pull yourself through this second part of your training. In this area, you will be using the type of plane that you most want to continue with once you have graduated.

Once you have successfully gone through each of the steps, which has only been an outline in the basics, although are quite extensive upon successful completion you will be able to claim the title of being an initial fighter pilot.

How To Be A Mindful Traveler

By Adriana Noton On February 25th, 2010

These days, consumers are becoming more mindful about how their lifestyle affects the environment. For this reason, more people are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint. One such area that is seeing an increase in ‘green’ consumers is the travel industry. More travelers are now becoming more mindful of the environment when they travel.

The following are a number of ways to be a mindful traveler:

1. Make sure that you book a flight on an airline that recycles the refuse left from serving beverages and food to their passengers. To help offset your carbon emissions, consider direct flights to your destination.

2. When you book your hotel, consider smaller accommodations. For instance, a homestay is much smaller and cozier than a large hotel. If you stay in a big hotel, check to see if there are any ‘green’ hotels in the area. Eco-friendly hotels will have implemented such ‘green’ measures as water conservation programs, energy efficient appliances, recycle and composting programs, and energy reducing programs. They will also incorporate ‘green’ practices in guest rooms such as recycling baskets and shampoo and soap dispensers. You can also do your part by using the same towels and linens during your stay and turn off the air conditioner and lights when you are away from the room. As well, consider a longer stay. If you stay in one spot instead of traveling from one hotel or resort to another, you will be reducing your carbon footprint instead of taking more flights.

3. Instead of using a rental car in your destination area, take advantage of public transportation such as a bus or hotel van. Whenever possible, try walking. It is good for your health, the environment, and you can get an up-close and personal look at the community.

4. When you are out in the community, be sensitive, and ask permission to take pictures of the locals. When possible, eat foods that have been grown locally rather than eating foreign foods that have to be imported. Make sure that you do your research before you go on your trip. It will help prevent any misunderstandings and will help show your respect for local customs and dress. It is important to be generous such as giving good tips. Make sure you do not engage in excessive haggling so you do not upset any vendors.

Before you leave home, you can begin your trip being ‘green’ by turning off your lights, turning down the thermostat, and adjusting the air conditioner. During your flight and while staying at your destination, there are many things you can do to be mindful of the environment and people. Not only will you be doing your part to conserve and protect the environment, it will make your trip even more enjoyable and memorable.
