Accommodation Around Lanzarote

Holidays in Lanzarote have been popular with tourists for well over forty years. The island already has three well developed tourist resorts with all the amenities that visitors look for close at hand. These are the oldest resort of Puerto del Carmen, the southernmost town of Playa Blanca and finally Costa Teguise, the most northerly of the three.

But for travellers who prefer to avoid the places visited by the vast majority of tourists, there is a good range of alternative accommodation in Lanzarote. Not only is the island dotted with rural hotels and fincas which offer peace and tranquillity in idyllic settings. But there are also a variety of more urbane destinations, such as the capital Arrecife.

It is here that the island’s only high-rise building, the five star Gran Hotel, can be found. A stylish and modern establishment, the suites are decorated with an eye for sleek interiors. The hotel’s facilities include its own spa with a variety of treatments available to guests. And an elevated swimming pool, surrounded by teak sun deck, overlooking the white sand of the Playa del Reducto beach just to the side of the hotel.

Just a five minute drive along the coast is the residential enclave of El Cable, where the boutique hotel La Quinta is located. With only sixteen rooms, it offers a five star experience on a smaller scale. The hotel facilities include an on-site a la carte restaurant, pool and Jacuzzi in the grounds, internet access and a collection of art and antiques for guests to admire.

Also on the south-eastern coast is the exclusive marina of Puerto Calero. Which these days has become the fourth resort on Lanzarote, due to the two large hotels situated here. Originally, Puerto Calero was created as a two-hundred berth luxury port for sailors navigating the Canary Islands. But since its inception twenty years ago, not only has the port expanded but the whole site has become more geared towards the tourists that visit the island.

The hotels that overlook the marina are the Costa Calero and the Hesperia Puerto Calero, the latter being a five star establishment. Both hotels have a good selection of facilities, including spas offering a range of relaxation treatments and massages and several on-site restaurants.

Often chosen as a wedding venue, the Hesperia probably has the widest range of services of any hotel in Lanzarote. Which include WiFi internet access throughout the building, a number of wheelchair adapted suites and areas and its very own canine holiday service. Allowing guests to bring their four-legged friend with them on a stay at the hotel.
